Paloma Wall + Ebb & Iv Hair Pick
Story: 2024 has been a year steeped in nostalgia, a time when memories have resurfaced with vivid clarity, urging me to reflect on what has shaped me. i often find myself recalling the warm, comforting fragrance of buttery cornbread sizzling in a cast-iron skillet on my nanny’s wood-burning stove, or the mornings spent watching my momma ready for the day as she carefully applied her black orchid lipstick across her full lips with her freshly pressed curls fall just right atop of her shoulders. most vividly, i remember my uncle anthony —striding through the streets of our small hometown with a swagger of confidence, his iconic fisted pick standing tall in his sculpted ‘fro.
though the hair pick itself didn’t originate in america, the fisted “styling pik” became a symbol of pride, strength, and identity during a crucial time in history—an era when the establishment sought to erase those very qualities.
for me, the pick is more than an object; it represents perseverance, strength, and the quiet assurance we carry in the face of adversity. recreating and capturing these timeless symbols through a lens of luxury is my way of honoring those who continue to embody this strength and courage today—those who forge paths for generations to come. in doing so, i’m reminded of how those past moments—those roots—remain within us, quietly shaping who we are and guiding us forward. This is my tribute, a nostalgic glance toward all that has come before and all that still endures•
